READING CHALLENGE 2010
In 2009, over half of our church family participated in our DAILY WALK CHALLENGE, reading through the entire Bible. Many went a step farther by participating in one of our Small Groups. As it is the Vision of Pawnee UMC to Build Biblically Functioning Faithful Followers of Jesus Christ, we want to offer you a new and deeper challenge in 2010. Pastor Troy is inviting you to take it to the next level with our 2010 Daily Walk Chronological Reading Challenge. Instead of reading the Bible in its classic 66 book composition, we are going to utilize a Chronological Bible which places the text in order from beginning to end. It is a different way to experience God’s Word. Pastor Troy shared, “I am so proud of the many that read through the Bible last year, and some now are on their second or third time through. We are becoming that Biblically Functioning Community of Believers. I want to invite you to take a new journey with me in 2010 using the Chronological Bible. We will be offering two levels of reading this year. The first level is the BASIC LEVEL. It will utilize a Bible that has a short daily thought, a seamed chronological reading style and an opportunity for you to grow closer to God. The second level is the ADVANCED LEVEL. If you have read through the Bible a few times now and are ready to go deeper into the Word and also into the World in which it was written, the Advanced Level offers an integrated reading style with some incredible study aids that will take your reading, study and reflection to a deeper level. Both of these levels require about 10-20 minutes of reading a day, and I want to challenge you to spend an additional 10 minutes reflecting and soaking in God’s Word and on how it will impact you for the day. I know giving God 20-30 minutes of your day will help your faith to grow mightily in 2010!
You can sign up to be a part of one of our Daily Walk Chronological Small Groups and get a Bible to participate in this reading program by calling the church office or emailing us at Pawneeumc@comcast.com. The Basic Level Bible is The Daily Bible in Chronological Order-NIV and will cost you $16.00. The Advanced Level Bible is The Chronological Study Bible-NKJV and will cost you $23.00. You can pay when you pick them up! For those that do not want to purchase the Bible, we will make the text references available in a little guide, as we did last year and will also put it online and in the bulletin each week.
We will offer Adult Advanced Classes on Sunday morning at 8:00 a.m. (before the morning service), Adult Basic Classes also on Sunday mornings (following the service). Other classes will be added as needed. The preaching team will also follow our reading plan with sermon series throughout 2010 from the weekly reading cycle.
